Every Significant Nike Football Boot Advert (Part 2 - 1996 to 2022)

Welcome to part 2 of our blog on the most important Nike adverts for their football collections.

We continue to list (in chronological order) all of the adverts we could find so take a more recent trip down memory lane and see if you had any of these boots from the last 15 years.

14. TAKE IT TO THE NEXT LEVEL (2008)

TNike took the risky step of telling their storey from the first-person perspective of a young, impressionable player making his way through the ranks of professional football in this 2008 advertisement.

Guy Ritchie's film follows the hero from amateur football to the Premier League and Champions League with Arsenal, and finally to the International stage with the Netherlands. We are taken on a brilliant journey in one ad, but it is far from a simple showcase for Nike products; there are dramatic layers on display.

The pitfalls of fame, such as the glamour of fast cars, partying, and attention from the opposite sex, begin to appear as the hero's fame grows. We see 'him' vomit on several occasions as he desperately tries to make the grade, and the message is clear: work hard, and you can Take It To The Next Level (ideally featuring Nike products).

15. Nike Mercurial Vapor 2008 SL

The new mercurial Vapor SL all carbon fibre boots, tested by Asafa Powell,(Namibia) the world's fastest man then deliverd to Didier Drogba's house...what a boot!

16. The Rematch

The rematch, the sequel to THAT Nike football commercial, was also fantastic. It was also on a boat. You won't be able to bring Roberto Carlos anywhere!

17. Nike CTR360 Maestri | Lauch Ad

It's Nike's football boot of 2009, the CTR360 Maestri. A football boot crafted for the player looking to master control and make the difference come match day.

18. Cesc Fabregas Nike Total Control Advert.

At the heart of the game stands the playmaker. The one whose first touch is already the start of the second. Who creates space out of chaos. Who sees runs no-one else sees or imagines. The one to whom precision is the norm and the spectacular expected. The one the other players look back to when their shot hits the net.

19. Neymar and the Superfly I

Ok so more of another viral Nike video set to spread the word about the new Nike Vapor Superfly I launched in 2009.

20. Nike Mercurial Vapor Superfly II – commercial (2010)

As part of the overall Nike Mercurial Vapour campaign, Nike needed a technical product film for broadcast in-store worldwide to communicate in more detail the actual new technology present within the high-profile football boot. The creators decided to shoot the product at high-speed on a Phantom and then seamlessly combine CG elements to aesthetically explain the more surprising characteristics of the Mercurial Vapour.

21. Cristiano Ronaldo vs Rafael Nadal: Nike Mercurial Vapor 8 ad (2012)

One of the most coveted boots of all - the Vapor VIII was a sublime design with all of that glass fibre and sexy silhouette....here they are with football meeting tennis.

22. Nike Hypervenom Commercial 2013

The infamous launch video of one of the most coveted boots ever - the Hypervenom Phantom Citrus.

23. Nike Mercurial SP13 Advert (2013)

New Nike Mercurial Advert Featuring Cristano Ronaldo and the New Mercurial Football Boots Released Feb 2013

24. Nike Hypervenom : Mirrors ft. Neymar Jr. (Nike Commercial 2014)

As Neymar Jr. readies himself to return to the pitch, Nike has teamed up with creative agency Wieden + Kennedy once again for a new commercial entitled "Mirrors".

Starring the Brazilian forward, the spot focusses on the the new Hypervenom boots that he'll be playing in this season and draws upon Neymars ability to trick the opposing team's defence. "This is Neymar Jr. in his Hypervenom boots," says Nike. "This is what it’s like to try to stop him." The Hypervenom Phantom is now available at Nike.

Directed by Johnny Green

25. Write The Future - Rooney Caravan – 2010 World Cup

It's a case of what might have been.

At least, that's what this Nike commercial with Rooney is attempting to convey.

The England record goalscorer played the part well, growing a beard and looking dishevelled.

He completely overshadows everyone else in the ad, which features Nike's superstar footballers like Didier Drogba, Fabio Cannavaro, Frank Ribery, Ronaldinho, and Cristiano Ronaldo, as well as cameos from Roger Federer, Kobe Bryant, and even Homer Simpson.

Alejandro Inarritu, who won Oscars for Babel, Birdman, and The Revenant, directed the film.

26. Nike Football: The Last Game full edition World Cup 2014

The FIFA World Cup 2014 in Brazil has already begun, and if you're a football fanatic like me, your life is now scheduled around kick-off times.

Yes, that date can wait, but these objectives cannot...

As usual, the major corporate brands are competing with their star-studded commercials. Nike's The Last Game commercial has stood out to me this year.

The five-minute animation features animation versions of Rooney, Cristiano Ronaldo, Neymar, Iniesta, Ibrahimovi, Ribery, David Luiz, and Tim Howard in an epic match to save the beautiful game from an evil scientist and his clones (which for some reason are all sporting bowl haircuts).

I wish I could give you more spoilers, but you'll have to see it for yourself.

27. Nike Tiempo Legend V

The Nike Tiempo Legend V is tradition modernized. It combines the premium leather feel that has distinguished the Tiempo for decades, with a revolutionary upper package and a flexible transition plate. This is legacy, perfected.

28. Nike Football Mercurial Superfly V Ronaldo TV Commercial 2016

Following the launch of the Spark Brilliance pack, CR7 let's you look into his personal collection in this viral advert.

29. Winner Stays On - 2014

Another advertisement that takes us back to basics and takes us to the park for a kickabout.

This game, however, quickly transforms from being played in a park to a major stadium.

Cristiano Ronaldo, Neymar, Zlatan Ibrahimovi, Wayne Rooney, Andrea Pirlo, Andrés Iniesta, Thiago Silva, Eden Hazard, Mario Götze, Gonzalo Higuain, Gerard Piqué, David Luiz, Tim Howard, and Thibaut Courtois star in Nike Football - Winner Stays.

The children who appear in the advertisement grow up to become superstars such as Ronaldo and Neymar.

Irina Shayk, Ronaldo's ex-wife, also makes an appearance, kissing her man.

30. THE SWITCH (2016) Spark Brilliance

Cristiano Ronaldo starred in an advertisement ahead of Euro 2016, which Portugal would go on to win, that tapped into the psyche of every young football fan in the world.

What if you could put yourself in the shoes of your hero? Even if only temporarily?

Nike provides an answer to that question here, as young ball boy Lee switches bodies with CR7 after colliding over the pitchside barrier.

Two parallel stories emerge: one about Ronaldo adjusting to life as a teen, being woken up by his mother and playing on amateur fields, and another about Lee, who is thrust into the spotlight as one of the world's most famous athletes.

Ronaldo must work his way back up to the big time, and he does so in order to become an England International, culminating in a match between Portugal and England in which the pair collide again, breaking the spell.

According to both stores, we get a look at some other Nike stars, including Harry Kane and Andrejko.

31. 'Awaken the Phantom' (2018)

The Nike ad 'Awaken the Phantom' features Coutinho, Neymar, De Bruyne, Ronaldinho, Pugh, and others.

Nike Football has released a new short film (commercial) to promote the PhantomVSN.

Nike Football's new commercial, Awaken the Phantom, stars Neymar, Philippe Coutinho, Mal Pugh, Ronaldinho, Wizkid, Andrea Pirlo, and Gennaro Gattuso, among others.

Can you name any other celebrities who appear in this commercial?

32. Never Settle, Never Done | Nike 2022

Unusual goals. Large aspirations. Incredible talent.

Women have been elevating the game since its inception, and they will continue to break records, set new standards, and raise the bar for all of football.

Alexia Putellas, Leah Williamson, Marie-Antoinette Katoto, Pernille Harder, Magda Eriksson, Rocky Hehakaija, and grassroots community clubs Women's Soccer School Barcelona and Grenfell Athletic FC are among those who have taken part.

Never Settle, Never Done

33. OUR GARRA IS NEVER DONE | Brazil National Team | Nike (2022)

The land of football is also the land of grit. Every day, 212 million Brazilians demonstrate their tenacity both on and off the field. Despite all odds. And no pull, push, or tackle can ever hold us back.

Featuring Rodrygo, Endrick, Leticia Bufoni, Adriana, Mc Hariel, Djonga, and Fred.

That takes up to 2022 so what next for Nike and their fantastic marketing team? Watch this space for more features as and when they come in!
